Tropical Storm Hanna
by @ 6:23 pm.

It wasn’t all that bad here.  We got 5 to 6 inches of rain.  The wind got pretty strong, but nothing all that bad.  We didn’t end up finding a leak in the roof that we though was fixed years ago.  Guess we’ll have to try and get it fixed again.  The power flickered once or twice, but we never lost it completely.  It did rain a lot though.

Not Much Snow
by @ 10:58 pm.

The snow didn’t amount to much more than a dusting.  Things did clear up for the lunar eclipse though, which was nice.

Snow!
by @ 12:41 pm.

It’s snowing outside the window here at work. We’ve not had nearly as much snow as I’d like this year. Hopefully we’ll get at least an inch or two out of this system.

Sledding
by @ 5:09 pm.

We went out for our second round of shoveling around 4pm.  The snow has mostly turned over into sleet now.

After we were done with the shoveling, the kids both decided to sled this time.  They both had a great time.  Mira got braver and braver as she tried it and watched her brother.  Kate and I had a great time watching them.  By the end, Mira was doing everything solo, I wasn’t even holding the sled for her while she got in.

Snow!
by @ 2:20 pm.

It started snowing around 9:30am and hasn’t let up much.  It’s coming down pretty hard at the moment.  I’m just back inside from shoveling and watching the kids play in the snow.  Xander had fun sledding and Mira had fun helping us build a snow man.  I’ve been fighting a migraine the last few days, so I wasn’t as active as I might have been in the playing, but we still had a good time.  We’re up to about 3 1/2 inches so far.

First Snow of the Season
by @ 11:22 am.

We are getting our first snow of the season today.  We kept the kids home from school even though Loudoun hasn’t canceled it yet, for some reason.  We’ve been out and played for a few minutes, but Mira and I are sick, so it was a very quick thing.  Mira was just so excited about catching snow flakes on her tongue that we let her out for 2 minutes to do that.  Kate and Xander stayed out a bit longer and did some shoveling and played a little longer once Mira and I came back in.

Rain at last!
by @ 12:51 pm.

We’ve finally gotten some rain the last couple of days.  It has been dry here.  We are on mandatory water restrictions and such.

We’ve had a nice soaking rain the last couple of days.  It doesn’t fix things, but it sure helps.  We just need it to do this off and on for a while.

Snow Totals
by @ 11:05 am.

We got about 3″ of snow out of the storm last night. We went out this morning and got in some bonus sledding, which was a lot of fun. Then we took a little walk around the neighborhood to just enjoy the extra snow. We sure didn’t expect to have another snow in March, but I’ll take it.

Things have already started to melt. The roads are already pretty much clear since they were plowed last night. The sun has melted the last layer of ice that the plows had left behind. All in all, it was a nice little snow storm.

Outside Again
by @ 3:14 pm.

Just got back inside from another hour out in the snow. They snow has stopped falling, and we’ve got the driveway all cleaned off. Looks like we got about 5″ of snow total. The sledding was still great! The snow packed down very nicely to make some little trails that were pretty fast runs. We all had a great time with it. Mira and Xander were also introduced to the idea of eating snow. Xander was skeptical about it, but Mira thought it was awesome! We finally had to make her stop. Xander did get into it by the end though. We had a great time playing outside. I wish every snow storm we got was like this one.

Great Snow!
by @ 12:02 pm.

We are having some of the best snow we’ve ever had right now.  It’s light and fluffy stuff that makes great snowballs and snowmen.  It’s also slick enough that it is good for sledding as well.  Kate, the kids, and I had a great time this morning playing and shoveling and making snowmen and sledding and throwing snowballs.  We had about 1 1/2″ of snow when we first went outside and I think it’s over 2″ by now.  It’s coming down very hard.  We’d shovel the driveway and by the time we had gotten to the bottom, we needed to work on the top again.  I’d guess we spent about and hour outside and had a great time.  We’re back inside now warming up.  We’ll be back out again later to shovel and sled some more.

Made It Out
by @ 11:18 am.

We made it out of the house.  Got the car past the ice and even got it back in the driveway when we made it back home.

Ice and Snow
by @ 9:26 am.

Overnight Tuesday night was an ice storm like I’ve never seen. We got a couple of inches of ice on top of the snow that had already fallen. It’s been a mess. Kate and I went out and shoveled some of it Wednesday, but it was so cold and windy that we decided to put it off till later. That was a big mistake. When we went out Thursday to try it, it was unmovable. I could jump on the top of it and not even make a dent. Yesterday was sunny enough that we were able to make some progress on it. At least enough that I think I can get my car out today, we are going to try in a little bit. It’s nice and sunny again today, and the temperature is predicted to get over freezing, so hopefully we can take care of the rest of the driveway today.

Snow!
by @ 4:04 pm.

So the big storm didn’t hit overnight like they expected, so the kids were off to school this morning with it snowing outside.  Kate and I went together and dropped them off.  Then we headed to Target to look for a copy of Wiiplay because it comes with an extra Wii controller, which is very hard to find, they didn’t have one.  After that, she had a Mom’s Club event at Panera, so I tagged along and found myself a nice corner to take advantage of their free Wi-Fi  so I could work while I drank my coffee.

As we predicted school was announced to be closing early.  We swung by Best Buy, which had a copy of Wiiplay.  Then we went and got ourselves some lunch and then went to pick up the kids.

It was back home after that and the kids had a little quiet time while I got some more work done.  Then we headed outside for some sledding which was a lot of fun for all of us.  It’s a very small amount of snow on the ground, but the ice that has been falling with it made things great for sledding anyway.
Tonight they are saying that we are going to get pasted with mostly ice.  It’ll be a stay at home where it is warm day tomorrow.

Snow!
by @ 9:25 am.

No school today!  I’ll be working from home, of course.  Looks like we got about 2″ of snow outside.  I’ll measure it when we get all bundled up later this morning to play in it.  Kids are home and excited.
