Verizon FIOS Installed

I’m very happy with Verizon so far.  They were scheduled for between 8 and noon today.  They called around 8:40ish, I think it was, and were here not long after 9am.  They were done by 10:30am and eveyrthing was working.  They were very professional and did a great job with the install.  Didn’t even complain [...]

Firefox 3.0

Downloaded and installed Firefox 3.0 today.  It certainly seems snappier that the previous version, but that could just be wishful thinking.  I’ll give more reports after I’ve had more time to play with it.

New Phones

Kate and I got new cell phones today.  We’ve needed to get new ones for a while.  We got the phones we’ve had up to now back in April of 2004.  They were old and only just worked properly anymore (mine did anyway, Kate’s was actually almost completely broken). I got myself a Palm Centro [...]

This is just amazing, and this is a guy doing it in his home using the Wii and his PC. I can’t imagine it will be much longer before game developers start doing something like this.

Gmail IMAP!

Gmail has added IMAP. Thanks to Mike I found out that Gmail has been enabling IMAP. I went and checked, and I’m one of the lucky accounts that has it enabled. I’ve got it all set up and running. It was a big feature that kept me from using my gmail account as much as [...]

We Have Internet Again!

by @ Monday, August 13th, 2007. Filed under Family, Internet/Tech

After an 138 hour outage, we finally have access to the Internet again.  You really don’t realize how much you use something like that till it’s gone.  Kate and I were at wits end not being able to rush over to look something up online when we had a passing question about something.  We are [...]

Using Control-Enter After Upgrade to Pidgen

by @ Thursday, May 10th, 2007. Filed under Internet/Tech, PC

I’m upgraded from Gaim today to Pidgen. My only complaint was all the work I had to do fix it so that control-enter sent messages and enter entered a newline. I found this blog entry about the problem, but it links to a 404 currently, so it wasn’t much help. After a lot of searching, [...]

Using nUnit with C# Express

by @ Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007. Filed under Internet/Tech, Programming

So I’m doing a lot of C# programming these days. I’m trying to make sure that all the classes I’m writing have unit tests so that we’ll be able to find problems more easily along the way. This is a pretty big project I’m working on. I found nUnit to use as an xUnit testing [...]

Object Oriented Conversion

by @ Friday, March 23rd, 2007. Filed under Internet/Tech, Programming, Work

I’ve been converted. For a long time, I really didn’t get into Object Oriented Programming. I was a procedural guy, and I was fine with that. I understood the basics of how to do OOAP, but it was never really my thing. Now I think differently. I took a class this week on Design Patterns [...]

New Blog Software

by @ Saturday, April 1st, 2006. Filed under Internet/Tech, Personal

I’ve switched from an ancient version of Movable Type to WordPress for my blog now. I didn’t like the changes Movable Type made to their licence when then went to the 3.0 line. My hardware couldn’t handle a database driven blog though. With the upgrade, now I’ve got the hardware to run something else, and [...]

New Gateway

by @ Saturday, March 25th, 2006. Filed under Internet/Tech

I’ve finally got a new gateway machine up, so things should get a bit snappier now. This is a 1Ghz AMD machine with 512GB of memory. It replaces the old 233 Mhz P2 with 92MB of memory. Things should run a bit faster now. Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AIM Fight

by @ Thursday, July 21st, 2005. Filed under Internet/Tech

I’m far from the first person on the net to link to AIM Fight. It gives you a score based on how many people are online that have you in their buddy list, and how many online people have them in their buddy lists, out to three levels. If you are in the top 5%, [...]

USENET Programming Questions

by @ Friday, April 15th, 2005. Filed under Programming

I have to remind myself that I was a beginner programmer once too. That said, I don’t think I was ever this bad.

Apple Call

by @ Tuesday, April 12th, 2005. Filed under Internet/Tech

So Apple calls me up this evening to let me know the warranty on my iPod is about to expire. I expected that to be followed by an offer to extend the warranty for the low price of blah blah blah. Actually, all he asked was if it had been working properly for me. I [...]
