Bringing Home Books
by @ 9:17 pm.

At Mira’s school you are allowed to bring home books from the class.  However, you can only do that once you have starting being able to read them.  Today, Mira got to bring home her first book!  It’s a very simple book, of course, but she was able to sit with me on the couch tonight and read me the whole book.  Everyone is very excited and proud tonight!

Tooth Number Four
by @ 10:11 pm.

Xander lost another tooth today.  The top left incisor.  He was playing at school and he and one of his friends got into each other somehow, I’m still not clear on that part.  Xander felt the tooth fall out!  It was not to be found though, so, as Xander said, “I lost it, lost it!”  He was fine with it though and very excited to have lost the tooth.  The new tooth is already poking through a little bit, as the the tooth for number three now.   He also found another tooth on the bottom row that is a bit loose this evening, so he’s all excited about that one now.

Birthday Party
by @ 10:46 pm.

We had Xander’s birthday party today.  We took him and his classmates (and Mira) to BeniHana for a nice lunch.  The kids all seemed to have a great time.  It was fun getting to watch Xander and his friends interact with each other.  Before bed, Xander said that this was the best day he’d ever had.  He says that from time to time about a given day, and what I’ve learned to take it to mean is that he had a really great day.  That’s what we were hoping for, so it make Kate and I quite happy as well.

Has It Been 8 Years Already?
by @ 8:46 pm.

Xander turned 8 years old today.  We went to his school this morning for his walk around the sun, which was as much an event as it always has been.  Xander had a great time and they even included Mira’s class, so she could see it too.  Once we picked him up from school we took him out for dinner.  After that we came home and he got to open his presents.  He was very happy with his gifts and the wonderful cards his class had made him.

It’s hard to fathom that 8 years have passed already.  It’s a reminder to us as parents to treasure every day that we have with out children, because they won’t be at home forever.

Not Much Snow
by @ 10:58 pm.

The snow didn’t amount to much more than a dusting.  Things did clear up for the lunar eclipse though, which was nice.

Snow!
by @ 12:41 pm.

It’s snowing outside the window here at work. We’ve not had nearly as much snow as I’d like this year. Hopefully we’ll get at least an inch or two out of this system.

50th Daytona 500
by @ 7:43 pm.

That was an awesome race! The CoT changed things up, and made them very exciting. It was exciting race with an awesome ending. Hopefully it’s a sign of an exciting year to come. We have been looking forward to racing season starting back up, and we weren’t disappointed!

We’ve spent the last week absorbing all the content about Daytona that has been on the airwaves.  The 50th race was kind of a hard thing to live up to, with all the hype, but it was great and it’ll be remembered.

A Stroke of Luck
by @ 6:46 pm.

So Kate goes to get in my car last night to go out to dinner with some of her friends and it won’t start.  It won’t even lock again.  The lights in the car just barely come on.  Clearly, the battery is dead.  I call up the Honda place and schedule to take it in today.  We jump start the car and everything seems fine.  In other words, the alternator is working. I’d left anything on when I had come home from work, so it’s most likely that the battery isn’t holding a charge anymore.

We take it in and it turns out that today is the last day that the battery is covered under warranty.  If it had even died today, it wouldn’t have been covered when I took it in tomorrow.  Amazing.  The guy checking me in this morning got a good chuckle out of it as well.  I’ve never been so glad to have a battery die on me.

Benihana
by @ 2:12 pm.

I’d never been to an actual Benihana before.  Kate and I have done teppanyaki at lots of other places, but never at a Banihana.  One opened up in Dulles Town Center this week, so we took this kids today for lunch. We all loved it. The food was great and the kids loved watching the show. It was the first time we’ve taken Mira to a place like that, and the first time since Xander was old enough to remember. They both enjoyed watching the chef and though his tricks were quite amazing! Xander thinks he might want to take some of his friends there for his birthday.
