Meat Loaf
by @ 2:23 pm.

I had a great time today working with Xander and Mira to make meat loaf, using Alton’s recipe, and it turned out quite tasty also! Xander helped me with the spices for the meat loaf and the cutting up of the veggies. He also helped me mix everything together before we put it in the oven. Mira helped me measure out the spices for the glaze and did the mixing for it. We had a great time working together on it. It turned out great and we all enjoyed eating it.

Halo 3 Is Out!
by @ 11:48 am.

I’ve played my first few minutes of Halo 3. I’ve got a migraine today, so I only played for about 30 minutes. I played a brief bit of single player just to see how it looks (it looks great in 1080p, by the way). Then I took a quick jaunt into multiplayer to try that out and won my first game! It looks like it is going to be lots of fun! Feel free to check out my service record.

Good Eats!
by @ 8:38 am.

Good Eats! We ordered the first 12 volumes of Good Eats recently and they arrived last night! Good Eats is one of our favorite shows and we’ve watched it for years and years. Alton does such a good job of explaining food in a way a nerd like me can understand and enjoy. He doesn’t just talk about the what of food, he talk a lot about the why. A lot of food science goes into the episodes, which hooks me and make it a lot easier for me to spend time doing something I wouldn’t understand the point of otherwise. Not everyone will have the level of love that means you need to buy a set of 36 DVDs, but I think everyone should at least watch a couple of episodes to see if it is for them.

WRGPT17
by @ 11:58 pm.

As is usual this time of year, I’ve registered for the WRGPT Email Poker Tournament.  I was entrant number 21 this year!  Last year I didn’t do so well.  I finished 1133 out of 1314.  Hopefully this year I’ll make a better showing!

New Kingdom Hearts Games!
by @ 11:56 am.

There is news coming from TGS about three new Kingdom Hearts games. One of them is a mobile phone game, so I doubt I’ll end up with that one. The other two are for the DS and PSP, which I’ll certainly end up picking up. No solid info on when these might be released, or if they will even make it to the US. I’m working on the assumption that they will for now. I’m very excited, and I know Xander will be too.

I found a little more coverage from IGN.

Walking With Dinosaurs
by @ 3:42 pm.

Xander got to go and see Walking With Dinosaurs today with his class.  He said that it was awesome and that he had a lot of fun.  I wish we could have all gone with him, it looks like it would be a great show!

BioShock Complete!
by @ 10:55 pm.

Just finished BioShock a few minutes ago.  It was an awesome game!  The atmosphere they were able to maintain throughout the game was amazing.  It was an excellent mix of excitement and creepiness and an excellent story to go along with it.

I’m all clear now for Halo 3 next week!

Homemade Tortilla Chips
by @ 6:17 pm.

Kate and I got our act together today and did some actual cooking.  We made the homemade tortilla chips that we saw on an episode of Good Eats we recently found on the TiVo.  We didn’t make the tortillas ourselves this time, we bought those, but we fried the chips ourselves.  They are very good and we are feeling quite proud of ourselves.  Kate is currently in the process of making us some nachos out of them.  I’m looking forward to those being done also!

First Day of School 2007 Update
by @ 5:24 pm.

The kids both had a great day today!  They enjoyed the first day at school and are looking forward to going back tomorrow.  They were both pretty tired though.  It sounded like they both got to do a nice mix of learning and fun that they didn’t realize was learning.  From the reports of the first day, it looks like the small classes are going to work out just fine.

First Day of School 2007
by @ 9:24 am.

The kids went off to their first day of school today.  They are at a new school this year, and when I say a new school, I mean a new school.  This is the first year for this school.  There are two classes, one primary and one lower elementary.  They each have 4 students currently.  We wouldn’t normally go for such a small school, due to the lack of socialization, but the teachers are very experienced and we have a lot of faith in both of them.  They are going to be getting an awesome education, and we’ll find ways to make up for the social aspect.

They both did a great job heading off into school.  We were a little worried about Mira this morning, since this is only her second year and she is a little more Mommy focused than  Xander was at that age, but she did just fine.  We are very proud of both of them and we are hoping they have a wonderful day today.

50th Anniversary
by @ 5:38 pm.

We just got home from a trip to my parents.  We were there celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary.  The whole family was there, of course.  We’d (heading up by one of my sisters) organized a big party for them on Saturday, which went great!  There were lots of extended family and friends there and Mom and Dad seems to really enjoy themselves.  We had a wonderful time setting it up and enjoying the part ourselves.  We also had a wonderful time seeing all the family and seeing all the kids playing together.  It’s been a long couple of days, but it was all worth it.

New Bowling Record!
by @ 10:38 am.

We are at my parents house today.  I woke up this morning and walked out to the living room where Xander and one of his cousins were playing Wii Sports Bowling.  Xander announced that he’d gotten 8 strikes in a row!  Sure enough, that’s what his score card read.  He turned his attention back to the game and ended up with a spare for the 9th and 10th frames.  I think me coming out broke his concentration.  In any case, he ended up with a score of 267!
