Friday was my last day in my office in Reston. After 9 years of being in an office, I’ve been moved out of that building and into a cube in Dulles. I have a variety of feelings about it, not many of them positive. I’m going to give it a shot though and see how I adjust to cube life. With any luck I’ll be able to settle in and make the best of it.
There are some positive things about the move. It’s closer to where I live, and I won’t be taking the Greenway to get to work anyway. The way I’m going to go in also goes right by the kids school, so I’ll be able to take them in to school most days, which I enjoy.
It’s a big adjustment though.
Heroes returned last night! It hit the ground running. It really is my favorite show at the moment. My only hope is that it doesn’t suffer from the same problems that Lost has in its later seasons, not being able to sustain the parts of the show that made it so amazing. I still watch Lost, but we tend to get several weeks behind and then catch back up. Heroes we start watching 15 to 30 minutes after it starts, just long enough to be able to skip the commercials.
In any case, the episode last night was awesome. I’ll stay spoiler free though. If you aren’t watching Heroes and like good, smart Sci-Fi, I’d recommend heading over to the website where you can watch all the old episodes online to get caught up.
HeroesWiki is an awesome resource for the show as well.
Xander got to watch his first episode of Doctor Who today!
We watched Destiny of the Daleks together this afternoon. Xander loved it. Mira wasn’t as impressed and wandered in and out of the room several times. Xander was engrossed. At least after the boring parts were over with. That series starts out a bit slow, but once the Daleks showed up, Xander loved it.
The planets have finally come into alignment.
Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are back tonight. I’ll be sorry to see the final episodes of SG-1 roll around, but at least there are 2 more movies scheduled for that. It’s been a great, fun series and we’ll miss it when it is gone.
Now, if April 23rd will just get here so Heroes will be back, then all will be right with the TV world.
I received a title change at work this week. I’m now officially a Senior Software Engineer, which I’m quite happy about. It has been a more accurate description of my job for awhile now, and it’s nice to have my title reflect it.
Happy Rooster Day!
That’s what Mira calls it anyway. She came home from school a couple weeks ago looking forward to Rooster Day! We aren’t sure exactly how she turned the word Easter into Rooster, but she insists that’s what today is called. We’ve mostly just gone with it, since we both find it cute. We had a nice day at home together today. The kids had a fun indoor egg hunt this morning (since it was around freezing all day today). Then they enjoyed eating candy on and off during the day while we did one thing and another. All and all a good day.
Xander and Mira are back home from their trip now. We went back down to Colonial Heights this morning to pick them up from my parents. They appear to have had a great time during their vacation. They are both tired enough that they clearly had a lot of fun. Kate and I enjoyed having a little time to ourselves, but we are glad to have them back home with us again!
So I’m doing a lot of C# programming these days. I’m trying to make sure that all the classes I’m writing have unit tests so that we’ll be able to find problems more easily along the way. This is a pretty big project I’m working on. I found nUnit to use as an xUnit testing framework. The problem was that I couldn’t figure out how to get Visual C# Express to use it for runtime debugging. There doesn’t appear to be a way to do it via the GUI. The full version of Visual Stuido has it, but work hasn’t gotten around to getting that for me yet.
Anyway, I poked around the Internet a bit and was able to find a hack that seem to be working just fine. Now I’m able to run my unit tests as I code to make sure all is well.
Talked to the kids some today. They are having a great time. They both had a good nights sleep and woke up in the morning and got themselves ready for the day. I talked to my Dad after they were in bed tonight, and it sounds like they are having a wonderful time.
