Vacation day one was a success. We left around 9am this morning and made our way to Sylva, NC, which is where Kate’s parents live. We made it here around 6:15pm. The kids were wondeful in the car. Xander had a new NASCAR game for his leapster which took a lot of his attention. Mira also had a variety of activities to keep her occupied. They both did a wonderful job with the long drive and we are very proud of them.
The kids are currently working out sleeping in the same room, which is a new thing for them. I’m sure they’ll get the hang of it before too long.
Anyway, we are here until Wednesday. The kids are excited to be here and we’re going to have a great time.
We’re all happy that Xander is back home with us. He had a great time at my parents house though. It was good for him and for us to have the time apart. I loved hearing my mom and dad tell the stories of the things that happened while he was there. I look forward to hearing more about them from him. Mira is estatic that her brother is back home, and Kate and I are too!
While Xander has been away with my parents, Kate and I have had a wondeful time with Mira. We’ve colored and put together puzzles and watched movies and played. She’s seemed to enjoyed being the sole focus of attention for a change. It’s been nice to not have to divide my attention for a little while and spend the time with her.
That said, she’d going to be amazingly happy when her brother gets back this afternoon. She really has missed him, even though she has mostly handled the whole thing just fine.
We’re all excited about seeing Xander again. It really is a different place without him around.
More mail from my mom,
Cars
The email i sent before was written about 1 o’clock but email wasn’t working and i believe it was 6 before it was sent. Update: The movie was very good and both boys very very good. There were only 2 other people at the movie. ( We got real good seats ) After the movie I went to feed nanaw and aj took boys to get ice cream. Nanaw ate good and in very good mood. Now boys are playing with cars, trucks firetrucks, etc and having a very good time inside. It is still very hot and humid outside but we are going to play a little golf now and then eat a bite and to bed about 9. Such a fun day for all. Love to all MW
More mail from my mom today.
We’ve got Xander…and Trin
We met Cheryl at WalMart and got Trin to keep a few days too. Boy, are the two of them having a great time. It seems good to have children running and laughing in this house.
They got an inflatable sword from McDonald from the Pirates movie and AJ blew them up and now they are chasing each other around the basement having the most fun and burning off all that excitment from seeing each other again. We are taking them to the move “Cars” at 3pm today. Xander & I were outside by 8 am to play a roung of golf. This sure makes me young again. AJ is up stair hooking up the Paly Station 2 with cars game up to the Pa’s TV for later. Love to all MW
That’s the subject of the e-mail my mom sent out to the family around 10:12 this morning.
Xander was so excited about coming to clinton with us. He has been so-o0-o-o good. It was a long ride home but we stopped 4 times and Xander was wonderful. It was 10:30 before we all got to bed…Xander in Dene’s bed. He was so excited about sleeping in a BIG bed all by himself and was so tired that he went right to sleep. He was up at 7:30 ready to play golf (we got him a lilttle golf set with putter, etc on the way home.) He ate a good breakfast and AJ and I took turns playing golf with him. Now he’s inside (hot outside) playing so good with all nannie’s toys and having a great time. He has already talked with Ty , Kate and Mira on phone. Looks like we are in for a great time. We might just KEEP him.
Love to all, Nannie & J-Pa
Xander just left the house with my Mom and Dad. He’s going to be spending some time there with them this week. They’ve been wanting to do it for a while, but things never quite worked out right. We made a serious effort to get it done this summer, and he’s currently on the road with them.
He’s been very exicted the last week or so about it. I know that he’s going to have a wonderful time. Hopefully Kate, Mira and I will be able to make it through also. ![]()
This was yesterday also on the way home from the kids My Gym class last night.
Mira says, “Mommy, we have candy at home.”
Mommy says, “Yes, Mira, we do.”
“I want some of it.”
I nearly ran off the road laughing.
So we were talking with Xander about his upcoming trip to stay with Nannie and Jpa by himself. We were asking him if he was going to call us every night and tell us what he’d done that day.
He said, “No, but I’ll call Mira and talk to her everynight.”
“You aren’t going to call us, but you’ll call Mira?”
“Yes, because she’s a lot of fun and you guys are boring.”
At least we know how we rate. ![]()
And so we come to the end of a wondeful 4 day weekend.
Saturday, we went out to pick up the pottery Mira had painted last week while Xander was at a birthday party. That turned into a whole outing as we just kind of explored the area around there some.
Sunday and Monday mornings around 11am, we headed out for an hour or so at the swimming pool. By Monday, we had Xander playing with one or the other of us in the big pool. He’s really starting to warm up to it. We hope to start teaching him to swim before too long.
This morning, we went to the Leesburg Fourth of July parade. The kids had a lot of fun watching the parade. This was the first time we had actually gone to it, and we all enjoyed it.
We finished off the evening tonight watching the fireworks display from Xander’s room. Xander loved it as always, Mira was a bit too tired to fully enjoy it, but seemed to like it some of the time anyway.
They are both snuggled up in bed now. We’ve had a wondeful weekend. I’m heading back in to work tomorrow, which will be a little bit harder than most days this time.
Xander got a small book of riddles recently. We were reading though some of them tonight before bed.
Xander asks, “What did one eye say to the other?”
“I don’t know.”
“Between you and me there is something that smells.”
So I found that one pretty funny so I started laughing. Xander laughs too. I explain the joke to him a little bit so he’ll understand why we are laughing.
So I have him tell that one to Kate. We all start laughing and Xander says, “It’s funny because eyes can’t talk.” Kate and I almost hurt ourselves laughing.
