Today Sci Fi announced a spin-off of Battlestar Galatica. It’s called Caprica and would focus on that world 50 years before Battlestar Galatica. It looks like it will feature the creation of the Cylons.
My family loves Battlestar Galatica, even my Mom and Dad watch it, so I’m very excited about this show as well.
I forgot to mention that our AC was working again. “The guy” finally showed up around 6pm Monday evening. This was after they called us around 3pm and told us he’d be there in an hour. *sigh*
In any case, he cleaned the coil and charged the freon and all seems to be ok now. He said the low freon didn’t have to be a leak, since they systems to lose freon over time and ours is 6 years old.
We did learn a valuable lesson from all this though. We use the AC way too much. We are now making an effort to really think about how much we use it, especially this time of year. We really were just fine most of the time for the past week, even on the 75° days. So less AC for us, at least untill it really starts getting hot outside.
Just got back from the dentist. Everything went well. It took about 1 hour 15 minutes this time.
They said the soreness I’ve been having is normal and might last another week or so. They also said I’ll be a little sore from the work they did today. I’m getting ready to head into work now, so hopefully things will continue to not hurt while I’m there.
I’m scheduled for my final crown on May 11th at 8:30am. They are also going to do my full work up then, cleaning, full x-rays and all, so that’ll be good to have done. Hopefully they won’t find any other problems.
I took Xander to school this morning. He got out of the car and I closed the door.
“Daddy!”
“Oh, sorry.”
I opened the door back up and let him close it.
As we are walking in I say, “Sorry about that Xander, I just have trouble remembering that you are a big boy now.”
“You still remember me being a little boy?”
“Well, you were a little boy for a long time, so I’m still not used to you being able to do so many things for yourself. I used to have to help you get your clothes on in the morning and brush your teeth and open and close doors for you.”
“And now I can do those things for myself.”
“That’s right.”
“It’s ok, Daddy. You’ll get used to it.”
Well, the root canal is all done. Finished it up about a 1/2 hour ago. Wasn’t all that bad. It took about 1 1/2 hours to get everything done. Didn’t really hurt very much, and the pain I did have was mostly from holding my jaw open for so long. I had Harry Potter to listen to on my iPod, so that kept me fairly well distracted.
Things on that side of my face are a little sore now. I’ve taken some Advil and hopefully that will take care of it. I’ve got some Tylenol III for the pain if the Advil doesn’t do enough for it.
I go in to my dentist on Wednesday morning to get a temporary crown in place, so I have to be a little careful of that tooth till thing, since I only have a temporary filling there now.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad exprience at all.
“The guy” came out and took a look at the AC. He said the first thing we should try is having the coil cleaned, so we’ve got that scheduled for Monday now. Looks like the worst day between now and this wil be 76°F prediected for Thursday, so we should be able to handle it. He said we can run the AC for an hour or two if we need to, so we might do that a little on the worst days for the kids sake at bedtime.
Having the windows open hasn’t been too bad. We’ve always avoided doing it in the past because of Kate’s allergies, but those haven’t been bad this time around, so we might try doing it more this year anyway, with energy prices being what they are.
Despite the air contidioning problems, we got out this morning and got some good work done on the front yard. We got mulch out on the trees and the area around the bushes and got the bushes fairly well weeded. It still needs more work next weeked, we didnt’ buy enough mulch, but things are looking a lot better. Xander and Mira had a great time helping. Xander must have spent 15 minutes just digging around in the dirt doing his own work getting grass up out of the area around the bushes.
Today was the last day of his spring break also. He’s been out of school for two weeks now between his sickness and spring break. He seems ready to get back to school and see his friends and do some work. One of the things that his school has taught him is the value of working. He really enjoyed helping with the yard work, partialy because it was work. He even commented on how important doing work is while we were doing it.
Mira also had a good time, but the actual work didn’t hold her interest as long. She ended up playing with bubbles and sidewalk chalk more.
We’re looking forward to a good spring and summer with them.
We got up Saturday morning and it was a little warm in the house. There wasn’t any air coming out of the vents. I went downstairs to take a look and the AC pipes were frozen up good. I changed the filter and we left if off for most of the day. We left the house and spent much of the day out in places where there was working AC. We came back later in the afternoon and things appeared to be thawed out so we turned it back on. It blew cold air! We let it run for about an hour then I checked it again. It was already starting to get ice all over it again. We turned it off and left it off overnight. We tried again this morning with similar results. Luckly the forcast for the week is cool and having windows open should keep us comfortable. I just hope we can get it fixed before things warm up again.
So I went to the dentist yesterday because of a pain in one of my teeth. I’m scheduled for a root canal the afternoon of the 20th and then a temporary crown the Wednesday morning after that. Fun. The final crown will be a week or two after that once it comes in.
Everything exists somewhere on the Internet.
Today I found (via Digg) a video someone made (scroll down a bit there to get to the video) that syncs up the audio from Game 6 of the 1986 World Series with video from RBI Baseball.
It’s quite impressive. I played RBI Baseball quite a bit when I was a kid, so this was an intresting bit of nostalgia as well.
Today Kate and I have been married 11 years!
It’s been a wondeful 11 years, I wouldn’t trade a day of it for anything. I’m amazingly lucky to have such a smart, beautiful, supportive woman to travel through life with. On top of that, she’s a wonderful mother to our children. I’m truly lucky.
Xander is doing well this morning. His temp was normal this morning when he woke up. Hopefully it’ll stay that way today. I’m back at work today, so things are slowly getting back to something like normal.
Xander had a good day today. We left him off of medicine most of the day and his temp stayed around 99°. Around 4pm is had crept back up to 100° so we put him back on Ibuprofen. We’ll keep an eye on him tonight, be we should be able to at least get a good night’s sleep this time. He was in high spirits all day and seemed to be feeling fine, we are just a little touchy about fevers at the moment.
In all the excitement of the last day, I’ve not mentioned Mira that much. She’s only gone to the bathroom in the potty since Sunday morning. That includes overnights. She has been doing a great job with it. She still wears a pull-up overnight, but that’s just because Mommy and Daddy are paranoid still. I suspect that’ll be over with before too much longer.
Xander is doing very well tonight. His temp has stayed around 99° all day either from the medicine, or from his recovery. We’ll wake him up at least once tonight to give him medicine to help him make it through the night. Then we’ll evaluate again in the morning and see how things are going.
