So a few years ago, we started counting how many Christmas trees we saw on the road around this time of year. It’s become an annual game for us, and Xander and Mira love it.
We saw the first tree of the season on the way home today.
Total count for the day: 12
We’re back from Clinton. We had a wonderful time for the most part, mared by only a few small details.
Everyone was there by Friday afternoon except for my dad, who had to work all week. We were sorry he wasn’t there, but we still all had a great time. It was wondeful to have all the grandkids together in one place to play.
Other than Dad not being there, only two things got in the way of it being a completely wondeful week. Mom got sick on Wednesday and had to spend the day in bed, and the same thing happened to Kate Friday night, and she spent that night and Saturday in bed.
The kids had a wondeful time playing together, inside and outside. My parents have a wonderful place for kids to play outside. Plenty of room for everyone. We had all sorts of stuff out there for them to play with. Baseballs, soccer balls, golf clubs, things to ride. It was a wondeful time. Inside was fun too, with lots of toys for the kids to play with together and seperately.
The food was wondeful as always. We took turns doing some of the cooking this year so Mom didn’t have so much to do. Dene made a chicken green bean casserole that was delicious. Joey and Cheryl made buffalo wings for lunch one day. Kate made taco salads one night. Mom did most of the cooking for Thanksgiving proper, but didn’t have to do all the work herself. It all seemed to turn out very well.
We all had a good time.
So last night, I was a little down about my car. It still feels pretty new to me, and it got banged up and I was a little sad about it. Kate reminded me what cars often look like after you hit a deer and how lucky I was to have only had minor body damage instead of a totaled car. She reminded me about my sister hitting a deer and what happened to her car then.
Well, this morning on the way in to work, I ran into some bad traffic on the Greenway. Turns out, it was an accident. A car had run into a deer. This car had the whole front end caved in and the windshield was shattered. It served as an excellent reminder to me how lucky I was to have escaped with a minor annoyance.
I had a small accident on the way home from work tonight. I’m fine, and the car is mostly fine, only a little bit of body damage. I hit an animal of some kind. I guess it was a deer, that seems most likely. I was driving home after dark (this was a little before 6pm) and all of a sudden, something just barrels into the left side of my car. Like I said, it was dark, so I’m not 100% sure what kind of animal it was, but a deer wouldn’t be unusual around here, I see enough of them by the side of the road.
I stopped and checked the car, then backup up a bit to confirm that it was an animal at least. The damage to the car isn’t too bad. A few dents and scratches down the side. The worst of it is just in front of the driver’s door. The metal there got pushed in and you can see into the inside of the door, and the metal above the front left wheel well got pulled out a little. I’ve got an appointment Tuesday morning to get it looked at by an adjuster so I can get it fixed.
