It’s Snowing (again)
by @ 10:51 am.

We headed out around 10:15 to get the driveway shoveled. We measured about 1″ of snow, and we guess 1/4″ to 1/2″ of ice under that. I didn’t mention it last weeked, but some kind soul with a snowblower on our end of the block, has been taking it up and down the sidewalk to clear it for everyone. What a wonderful thing to do for your neighbors!

Mira and Xander had a good time playing in the snow while Kate and I shoveled. They got cold after about 20 minutes so we headed back inside.

We initially went out to do the shoveling now because the snow had stopped and the radar looked like we wouldn’t be getting any more. But while we were out there, more snow formed to the NW of us and swooped in. So it’s snowing pretty hard again now.

Johnny Carson
by @ 4:14 pm.

Johnny Carson died today. I grew up looking forward to the chances I got to stay up late and watch The Tonight Show. He was one of the funniest people I’d ever heard. Once he quit, late night TV never really recovered. I’m truly sorry to hear he is gone.

The Snow Has Stopped
by @ 2:38 pm.

It has stopped snowing outside. Looks like that might it.

Still Snowing
by @ 2:13 pm.

Xander and I went out and cleared the driveway about 30 minutes ago. By the time we’d get to the bottom, you couldn’t tell we’d done the top. I measured about 3″ of snow at that point. It wouldn’t shock me if we’d gotten another inch since then. It’s really coming down out there. We can see the traffic lights again now though.

From the radar it looks like the snow will be ending before too much longer.

19 °F with wind chill of 10 °F.

Thunder Snow
by @ 12:31 pm.

We just had an experience that I’ve never had before.

This snow storm apparently comes with lightning and thunder.

There was a bright flash outside and Kate said, “Was that lightning?”

Just then there was a deep roll of thunder.

I’ve never been in a snow storm with thunder and lighting before.

Now we can’t really see the stop lightl. You can just make out the lights if you look hard enough.

18 °F with a wind chill of 8 °F.

Heavy Snow
by @ 12:01 pm.

The snow is really starting to come down now. We can’t see much past the stop light right now. It’s also gone from the small flakes were were getting this morning to much larger ones.

Snow Update
by @ 11:24 am.

The snow took a little break just as we were heading out to do some shoveling. I made the mistake two years ago of thinking it would be best to wait till eveything was done and then shoveling one time. That didn’t turn out to be the best idea. When we got 2 feet of snow, it took a lot of work to get us dug out. So this time I’m going to head out every few hours.

We’d had about a 1/4″ so far. Didn’t take very long to get done. All 4 of us were out working on it. Xander is getting to be a good little helper. Mira helped me push the shovel for a little while, but, as Kate put it, “what she really wants to do is direct.”

We’re back in getting warm again now. Looks like the heavy snow is just about ready to hit us.

18 °F with a wind chill of 6 °F.

Snow Update
by @ 8:41 am.

We can’t see the lines on the tennis court any more. I’m not exactly sure how to describe how it’s snowing now. It’s coming down fairly hard, but you can barely see it, it’s such fine snow.

Xander is very excited about the snow. We have most of the curtains in the house open so we can watch it. We’ve been watching it snow in the back yard since we got up this morning.

So, Xander was heading upstairs to play with his Leapster. He stopped to look out the front window before he went up the stairs and exclaimed, “It’s snowing in the front yard, too!”

Currently it’s 16 °F with a wind chill of 3 °F.

Big Snow Coming
by @ 7:25 am.

It’s lightly snowing outside now. It’s just getting light outside. The tennis court is just starting to show the signs of the snow. We are expected to get between 6″ and 10″ of snow today. It’s 16 °F outside with a wind chill of 5 °F

Shoveling
by @ 4:49 pm.

Just got back in from shoveling the driveway and sidewalk. 21°F is cold.

Xander and Mira thought is was great fun.
Kate and I thought it was not, but watching them enjoy it was at least.

Snow Ending
by @ 1:18 pm.

The snow has pretty much stopped now. Looks like between 1/4″ and 1/2″ to me, but it’s hard to tell since it’s been blowing around so much. Roads aren’t too bad. I just got back from getting Xander from school, and I didn’t see any accidents.

They are saying we might get some more later today, but they aren’t sure.

More Snow
by @ 10:17 am.

Snow is coming down pretty hard now. Grass is starting to whiten.

Real Snow
by @ 9:45 am.

We’ve got some real snow falling now. It’s pretty dry stuff, since it’s so cold, so it’s blowing around a lot. Tennis court and driveway are pretty much all white now. Any ground without grass is getting pretty white as well. Grass still doesn’t show much.

It’s Snowing
by @ 9:19 am.

Light snow has started falling. Current temp it 18°F, so it’s no shock that the snow is sticking pretty well.

Cold and Snow
by @ 6:19 pm.

We had a very light dusting of snow on the ground Monday morning when we got up. It was mostly on the mulch around the trees in the yard.

This morning, we got up, and it was cold. And I mean COLD. The wind chill was 1°F. Schools opened late in order to keep kids from standing at the corners waiting for buses in that cold.

Now they are saying we may get an inch of snow tomorrow afternoon.
