Merry Christmas to all!
We’ve had a wonderful day. We got up around 7am and I played with Xander in his room some while Kate fed Mira.
After that we headed downstairs to have some breakfast.
After that was done, we heading into the family room and the first thing Xander saw was his new NASCAR carpet. He, of course, loves it.
We worked our way through the presents and Xander and Mira both seemed to have a great time. (Kate and I did as well.)
More importantly, we were all together and safe for another year. That’s about the best thing that anyone can hope for.
So we were among the silly people heading out to do some shopping today. Kate hadn’t been able to get Xander out to pick me out a present yet. We’d planned on doing it last weekend, but he was sick and all, so it never happened. So after I got home from work today (which was early since they told us to go home a little after noon) we heading out to Target all together. We needed to do some grocery shopping as well, so we decided to make a family trip of it. Kate and Xander would sneak off and get my present, and Mira and I would work on some of the grocery shopping.
Anyway, the point to the story is that on the way there, we saw a beautiful rainbow in the sky. I saw it first and pointed it out to everyone else. Xander pointed it out to Mira and said, “Mira, it’s your first rainbow!” So I figured it was worth mentioning.
Xander is doing just fine today. He went back to school today and had a great day. He’ll be in good shape for Christmas, which was my biggest worry at this point. We’re all glad that he’s doing better.
I took a day off from work today. I went with Kate and Mira to Mira’s play class at My Gym. I had a great time doing that with her. She’s the youngest in her class, but she sure takes right to it.
The publication date of the 6th Harry Potter book has been announced.
July 16th 2005, in Britain, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
I figure Kate will be done with it by the 18th, so I’ll get a hold of it then. ![]()
Xander is doing some better today. Yesterday afternoon, we woke up around 5ish and wanted to eat and play some games, so that’s a good sign. He’s wanting to go downstairs and play some as well, but we’re waiting till later today for that, so he’ll have been on his antibiotic 24 hours first. This morning he woke up without a fever, so maybe that’s broken as well. We’ll have to wait and see.
Just got a call from Kate. She had Xander at the doctor this morning, and it’s confirmed as strep. No big shock. He’ll be on an antibiotic here soon.
Xander woke up this morning with a temp of 101.5° and a bright red throat. Strep has been going around his school, so we are pretty sure that’s what it is. We called the doctor and they said that we should bring him in Monday for a strep test. It most likely wouldn’t register at this point anyway, they said. If he is too miserable, they said we should take him to an urgent care center and get it done there.
He’s been up in his room all day, mostly sleeping. It’s really too bad, because Kate’s parents got in today, so he’s missing seeing them. He’s sick enough that he doesn’t care he’s not seeing them though.
Xander’s school had their “Holiday Program” last night. It also happened to be the night that my parents picked to come up and visit us before Christmas, so they got to go see it as well.
Xander and Mira were both thrilled to see them.
The program was wonderful. They sang Christmas Comes but Once a Year, Jingle Bells, Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Feliz Navidad. Then we all sang We Wish You a Merry Christmas together. Xander did a wondeful job and says he had a great time as well. Mira was very good during the whole thing as well.
We got the tree itself put up today. No lights or anything on it, but it’s progress. Xander had a great time helping us get it set up. He actually did a good job helping us get the branches all spread out before we put them on.
After that we got the lights up on the outside of the house. The lights on the bushes were pretty easy. We actually go the lights up on the roof this year. It’s the first year weather/time/illness haven’t gotten together to keep me from getting it done. Xander thinks it is quite wonderful.
